Athlete of the Week
This week we are highlighting our incredible cross country athlete, junior Diego Zambrano as our athlete of the week. Diego has gotten first place in his last two races. In the Champs Invite, he ran the 5000 meter race in 16:08, which had him not only winning, but also setting a new course record previously held by SC alum Benjamin Bourne. Diego beat out more than 200 runners. Then, this last Thursday, he got first at the Stayton/Regis Invitational in a field of 127 runners, with a time of 16:04, a new PR for him. Congratulations Diego, keep up the great work!
Cross Country Round up
SC Cross Country is having a great season and only has 3-4 more meets until District. Junior Diego Zambrano has won the Varsity Boys races in the last 3 meets the team has run at. He currently has the 5th fastest time in the state for 3A boys and has set new PRs the last 2 weeks. He was the district champion last year and is looking to repeat. On the girls side, Laynee Adkins-Stewart and Samira Zambrano, both freshmen, have the 5th and 8th fastest times in district and will also be vying for a spot at the State Meet. Laynee has had top 10 finishes in the last 4 meets run. Many of their other team members are showing great improvement with several PR performances each week.
