Athlete of the Week
Mikeayla Van Order, a junior, took first place last weekend in the 1A/2A/3A Individual All-State Cheerleading Championships. She came to Santiam Christian with a gymnastics background, but this is her first year cheerleading. Congrats Mikeayla on being named as Athlete of the Week! You can watch Mikeayla’s championship performance HERE.
Cheer All-State Individual & Stunt Groups
Akira White, also a Junior, took 3rd place overall in the 1A/2A/3A division. Watch her HERE.
Halle Perlenfein and Celia Chatteron both finished in the top 9 and made the All-State team alongside Mikealya and Akira. Akira White, Sara Lee, Brooke Donne, Lucy Scariano and Nadine Luksch participated in the All-State Stunt Group competition and took 4th place out of 17 teams in the 1A/2A/3A/4A division! You can watch their performance HERE. Grace Faber, Abby Fulcher, Temperance Montgomery, Celia Chatterson and Avery Biza also competed in the All-State Stunt Group competition with an outstanding performance. We are so proud of all these athletes and how they represented Santiam Christian High School!
Boys Soccer
After their final league game of the season, the boys soccer team sits at 3rd place in special district 3, ranked #24, with a 7-2 league record (9-4-1 overall.) With that finish, the Eagles have earned a spot in the state bracket, and will be awaiting the rankings freeze tomorrow, October 29th. Then they’ll be seeded into a 20 team bracket, with the first match scheduled for November 2. Good luck boys!
Girls Soccer
The girls picked up a league win on Tuesday, taking out Siuslaw 1-0 on the road. The winning goal was scored by Elysia Schweitzer! Special thanks to the girls soccer coaches Katie Turnbull, Kalli Carley, and Taylor Vincent.
Volleyball Wins PacWest Conference
In a match to clinch the league title on Monday at Dayton, the Eagles played their best match of the season and made swift work of the Pirates, sweeping them in 3 sets 25-10, 25-20, 25-22. Joya Euhus led the team with 18 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces. Allison Curtis added 11 kills, 6 digs and 3 aces. Lucie Vigil returned from injury and led the defense with 10 digs. Brynna Worden had a breakout game with 5 kills, 3 digs and a block. Freshman Emma Wright was phenomenal with 7 aces.
On Wednesday, seniors Joya Euhus and Lucie Vigil were honored before the last league game vs. Willamina. Also on senior night, Joya Euhus broke her own school record for kills in a single season. Her previous record of 491, set last season, was surpassed, and continues to be pushed at each subsequent match. Her current total kills for the season stands at 558.
On Saturday, the Eagles volleyball team won the league tournament championship against Dayton again in a 3-0 sweep. All league selections were announced:
Joya Euhus, Player of the Year, 1st Team
Allison Curtis, 1st Team
Lucie Vigil, 1st Team Libero
Lexie Boshart, 1st Team Setter
Esther Mes, Honorable Mention
Brynna Worden, Honorable Mention
On Saturday night, 3A rankings froze with SC at #3. The 20 team state bracket was filled out, with the Eagles awaiting the winner of a play-in game between Creswell and Vale. That game will be hosted at Santiam Christian next Saturday November 2nd at 3 pm for the Eagles’ first game of the state tournament. The winner of that match will advance to the state tournament at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay on November 8-9.
Eagles Win Homecoming Game
The football team honored 13 seniors before the game began: Jeremy Ness, Josh Riddle, Jake Breyman, Connor Rahn, Max David, Michael Knox, Lucas Fuller, Leland Beem, Matthew Bradley, Matthew Montgomery, Justin Christy, James Roden, and Sam Shore.
The offense made quick work of the game, scoring 40 points in the first half behind efforts from Jeremy Ness (4 touchdowns, all in the first quarter), and rushing touchdowns from Chess Lewer (38 yard run) and Jordan Herb (19 yard run.) The second half had a running clock due to the point differential, so the JV squad was able to get some varsity time.
With the win, the Eagles officially set the stage for the league title game at Taft next Friday night, November 1st. Both teams are currently 6-0 in league, with the Eagles ranked #3 overall in 3A and the Tigers sit at #5. Special district 2 sends two teams to state, so both the SC and Taft teams will qualify, but Friday night’s game will determine who gets top billing. Rankings will freeze on Saturday night, November 2nd, and then a 20 team bracket will be filled out. With the Eagles’ current ranking, hosting a first round state playoff game is likely.
Cross Country Looks Ahead to Districts
On Wednesday, the SC cross country team ran in the Happy Hustle, a local 5000 meter race along the Willamette River. The top boys finisher from SC was Diego Zambrano, who finished 5th in a field of 120 runners with a time of 15:45:12. The top girl finisher from SC was Samira Zambrano, with a time of 12:02.75. The Eagle runners will compete in Districts on Wednesday, Oct 30 at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon, starting at 3:45 pm.
